Giving it Time

You are simply ecstatic!  You have just found out you are going to have a baby and are over the moon with joy!  You want to jump right in and start planning the nursery, your head is filled to bursting with ideas and you drive your husband insane with all the things you think should be done.  All good, but it is recommended that you wait until after the first trimester is safely over.  During this time you can do your research and find out about all the exciting things available for babies.

Safety First

The most important factor to be considered is the bed, the child is going to be living in that crib or bed for a good part of the first year of life. You have to buy the bed before you can move on to buying modern baby bedding. Buying the bed should be given careful consideration because safety is paramount.

Once you are done shopping for the bed and it has been delivered and set up, you can get on to planning the modern baby bedding for the bed. Take your measurements carefully, you want linen that will fit well and not come undone in the night and tangle up the baby. Buy slightly bigger top sheet because they may shrink in the wash.

Keeping it Simple

Your baby bed will need a mattress pad to safeguard from diaper accidents and buy more than just one or two top sheets, this will save you from having to do laundry on a daily basis. The bumper should fit snugly around the bed and not be too frilled and flounced. A firm rule when buying modern baby bedding is to keep the ruffles and frills out, nothing that can be a choking or any other type of hazard for the baby should be used.

Going With Themes

You can always choose a flexible theme for the nursery if you don’t know whether it will be a boy or a girl. This way it really won’t matter. Go with stars, teddy bears, nautical themes that are more neutral. Go with colors that allow you to mix and match designs and fabrics, get furniture that compliments the room and the theme you have chosen but don’t sacrifice functionality and comfort for decoration purposes. Don’t forget to add your own artistic touches to the nursery, that’s what makes the room special!

Your Choice

The term modern is rather a broad one and modern baby bedding has everything from the very latest, dazzling prints in daring prints and hues to the more minimalist, subdued tones. It really depends on the parents’ choice, you may like contemporary and go for the vibrant ‘in your face’ bold look or you may prefer something a little less funky. The fabrics are the modern easy care and not limited to cotton and flannel; you can get a very nice line in rich micro-suede which is as modern as they come.

Modern baby bedding also runs to organically produced bedding; this may be of interest, keeping in mind the delicate state of a newborn baby.
