Knowing What It Is
It’s perfectly normal when your baby gets a diaper rash. If your baby’s diaper area looks red, irritated and the skin is a little warm and puffy when you touch it, then there is a great possibility that your baby has a diaper rash. A diaper rash can range from a mild version of having a few red prickly spots on the skin in a small area to a more extensive version of multiple red bumps spreading across your baby’s thighs and tummy. A diaper rash can cause your baby slight pain, especially when you wipe or rub your baby’s bottom. Don’t worry about diaper rash, as it is perfectly normal for babies to have diaper rashes and you can easily treat your baby without having to take her to a doctor.
How To Prevent It
Let’s look at how you can effectively treat and prevent your baby from getting a diaper rash. One of the first steps that you can take in preventing your baby from getting a diaper rash is changing her diapers regularly. By changing her diapers regularly, you will prevent and treat diaper rash effectively. The truth is a diaper rash occurs when her soft skin is exposed to the wetness of a soiled diaper for long periods of time. Therefore, if you can change her diaper as soon as it gets wet or soiled, you will go a far way in helping to resolve the diaper rash problem.
Bigger Is Better
If your baby’s diaper is too tight or too small, it may cause your baby to develop a diaper rash. So, if you want to treat your baby’s diaper rash try buying a bigger diaper or using a one size up diaper, which will give your baby’s skin more space to breathe causing any skin rash to disappear. When the rash is gone, you may put your baby in her normal sized diapers. If your baby has a diaper rash, another way to treat this, is by using a soft wash cloth damped in warm water to wipe her bottom as opposed to using factory made baby wipes. By using soft wash cloth and warm water, you will be able to gently clean your baby bottom better than the store bought baby wipes. The soft wash cloth should be rinsed before and after cleaning your baby, as this soft wash cloth is highly likely to sooth her diaper rash.
Ointment May Help
After you have wiped your baby’s bottom cleanly, before you put on a new diaper on her, you may need to rub a little diaper rash ointment on her bottom. After you have applied the ointment, you should use some baby powder or corn starch to keep your baby’s bottom dry and smooth. It is also a good idea to let her affected area air dry before you put on that fresh diaper. This is because the air will act so as to heal the area, while at the same time clearing the diaper rash quicker. If you have followed all the steps above, but the diaper rash doesn’t disappear, then you may need to consult with your baby’s pediatrician, mainly because the diaper rash may be a more serious yeast infection that needs professional medical care.

Thanks for reminding us that we need to be aware of diaper rash and be prepared to treat it immediately. Poor babies. Hopefully, prevent it but that is hard.
For immediate relief and to clear it up - I use pure shea butter. It works every time - with no chemicals. I wrote a hub about the amazing healing benefits of shea butter because I used it on my grand daughter's diaper rash.
