Naming your baby is the most exciting thing about having a baby. It is something that will stay with your baby for the rest of his life so be wise and think carefully before selecting one. You should give a name that you think your baby will be proud of and will carry it their entire life. Name has an effect on the personality so think twice before naming your baby. However there are some things that you should consider and some that you should avoid while selecting a name for your baby.

Think of a lot of names before the baby is born. This will help you a lot in selecting the final name. On a piece of paper write down all the boy and girl baby names that you and your husband like, and then decide finally which one to select. This would help you and your husband as well in selecting a name as you have limited choices and you need to select in them. This way you and your husband will agree on the perfect name for your child. Once you both have decided, do not let others influence your decision and change your choice.

Select a name with good meaning or you can go the other way round by looking for a good meaning and then selecting a name. A name can also enhance the child’s personality if it has a good meaning. So make sure that the name you select has a good meaning and what is symbolizes. You can also name your child on the basis of a quality that you would want your child to have. This would help him in developing that quality and will happily carry it for the rest of his life

Do take into account the family heritage while selecting a name for your newborn. There maybe names that carry history so if you like it you can choose that name for your child. You can also honor your grandparents by naming your child after their name. This may serve as a way for remembering them but if you do not like their names you can use them as your child’s middle name. Also make sure that the first and last name of your child does not rhyme as people would make fun and your child will start disliking his or her name

Do not name your child after a popular star because then your child can get stuck in to whatever connotations that name has. Also do not keep common names nor give your child pet names that could get sticky in future. The child’s names should be something that he or she should be proud of. Their names should be such that no one is able to make fun of.
