The Most Exciting Day!
One of the most exciting days in the lives of parents is when they get to bring baby home for the first time. It does not matter if you are parents for the first time or the tenth time, the thrill is always there. A new life has joined your family and as you open up your hearts and home to this little life, you want the best for it.
Considering the fact that the child will spend the first year of life in a cradle or crib or bed, whatever you have chosen, you need to put a lot of time and energy into sourcing and buying the absolute best baby bedding available.
3 Categories of Baby Bedding
Baby bedding can be broadly divided into 3 main categories and each one is dealt with in some detail below to help you make informed decisions when you go shopping for your baby. Something that you need to keep in mind, babies coming out of the warmth and security of the womb for the first time need to be well wrapped to give them that continued sense of warmth and safety.
Top Sheets and Blankets
Top sheets and blankets are the common choice and often when you buy baby bedding they come as part of a set. You will find cot sheets, coverlets, blankets and more in a really wide range of colors and designs and fabrics, you are going to have a hard time making your selection. The good thing about such a wide range is there’s always something for every budget. Sheets and blankets have the advantage of being layered to keep the baby at the right temperature; simply add or remove layers of baby bedding to maintain the temperature. Some tips on putting the child safely to bed include: the baby should be put to sleep feet to the foot of the bed; bed covers tucked well into the ends of the mattress so that the child cannot slip under; covers never above shoulder height; avoid pillows or duvets, stuffed toys or others clutter in the bed; no hot water bottles and certainly no electric blankets.
Swaddling Blankets
Swaddling blankets are an old fashioned method of keeping the child warm and aiding adjustment to life outside the womb. The blanket is securely wrapped around the child using slight pressure. You will plenty to choose from and a whole host of colors to choose from. Research shows swaddled babies sleep better and are less likely to wake frequently.
Sleeping Bags
Sleeping bags are a rather new invention; the child is slipped into an armless bag that fastens at the shoulders, side and base with poppers and zippers. The bags come in a range of colors, are suitable for use from birth, can be rather expensive and usable until the child is approximately 4 years of age. The bags are very good for maintaining a constant temperature for the baby, ensuring it gets an undisturbed night’s rest.
Baby bedding is one of the most important considerations and you should take the time to research and shop around for the best products. You will have to spend because high quality fabrics that will be gentle on delicate skin come expensive.
